Objectives:

The objective of the event was to conduct a Group Discussion Competition titled "The Insight Exchange", organized by the Lloyd Group of Institutions for BBA and B.Com students. The focus was on enhancing participants' skills in communication etiquette, adherence to formal dress codes, maintaining time limits, and showcasing content quality and logical reasoning.

Detailed Report:

On November 25 & 26, 2024, the Lloyd Group of Institutions organized a two-day Group Discussion (GD) Competition: “The Insight Exchange”, fostering critical thinking, communication skills, and team work among the students. The event was conducted in two phases: The preliminary round on Day 1 and the final round on Day 2. The 12 topics that were given to the participants were:

  • Should Capital Punishment Be Abolished?
  • Skill-Based Learning vs. Degree Based Education
  • Future of Remote Work: Temporary Trend or Permanent Shift?
  • Internships: A necessity or an Added Pressure for Students?
  • Can Technology Replace Human Jobs Completely?
  • Is 5G Technology Worth the Hype?
  • Should Mental Health Awareness Be Taught in Schools?
  • E-Commerce vs. Brick-and-Mortar Stores
  • Cybersecurity: How Safe Are We Online?
  • Impact of War on Global Economies
  • The Growing Popularity of Minimalism: Trend or Necessity?
  • Impact of OTT Platforms on the Film Industry.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and showcased exceptional talent and collaborative spirit among the students. 

 

Day 1: Preliminary Round

On the first day, the preliminary round, participants were divided into 4 groups. Each group was randomly assigned one of the 12 pre-announced topics on the day of the competition. The structure of the GD was as follows:

  • 1 Minute: Participants were given time for individual preparation to gather their thoughts.
  • 8 Minutes: The group engaged in an open discussion, showcasing their ability to articulate ideas, present arguments, and respond to counterpoints.
  • 1 Minute: Each participant had the opportunity to deliver a brief conclusion, summarizing the discussion or presenting their final viewpoint.

The judges evaluated the participants based on:

  • Content- 20
  • Communication Skills- 20
  • Team Dynamics- 20
  • Leadership Abilities- 15
  • Analytical Abilities- 15
  • Body language- 10

At the end of the preliminary round, the top performers from each group were selected to move to the finale round. This careful selection process ensured that the most deserving participants advanced to the next stage.

Day 2: Finale Round

The finale round was held on 26.11.2024, featuring the most promising participants from the preliminary round. The finalists were divided into two groups, with the same structure and rules as Day 1. However, the level of competition was significantly higher, as participants had already proven their mettle in the earlier round.

Discussions were intense and thought-provoking, with participants delving deep into their assigned topics. They demonstrated strong analytical skills, effective communication, and an impressive ability to collaborate and lead within their teams.

After rigorous evaluation, the winners of the competition were announced as follows:

  • First place: Sandarbh Jaiswal
  • Second place: Kunal Chaudhary
  • Third place: Shivangi Aggarwal
  • Constellation: Stanzin Zatsal

The winners were facilitated by the Head of the Department (HOD), Dr. Shilpi Sarna Ma’am, trophies and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance.

CONCLUSION:

The two-day Group Discussion “The Insight Exchange” successfully provided a platform for students to demonstrate their potential while fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and collaborative teamwork. Participants were challenged by a diverse range of topics, which allowed them to showcase their ability to articulate and defend viewpoints. The event highlighted the importance of respecting diverse perspectives and engaging in meaningful dialogue.

The competition was not only rewarding experience for the winners but also a valuable learning opportunity for all participants, inspiring them to continue developing their leadership and communication skills.
